Sega Is Bringing Back the Genesis

Sonic fans... SEGA is back!!! Get ready for the new retro-console boom.

Earlier this month, Nintendo announced a new version of the NES in the form of a small, modernized console, with a slew of built-in classics. And in a flashback to the those heady days of "blast processing" and the console wars, Sega's has announced a new retro-console too.

The new Mega Drive (what the Genesis was called outside the U.S.) has a lot in common with the new NES. It's small. It will work with the HDMI port on your modern TV. It comes with 80 classics built in, including all the core Sonic games, Mortal Kombats 1-3, a pair of Vectormen, as well as some low-key classics like Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine andComix Zone.

But the new Mega Drive also does something that Nintendo don't; it will actually work with old Genesis cartridges, so if you still have a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist, you are in luck.

The console is up for preorder for $65.

Only time will tell who can win Round 2 of everyone's favorite console battle.
